Cosmetic surgery is still surgery nonetheless, and patients can expect there to be a recovery period where they are required to rest. Dr. Kevin Sadati feels it is important to provide his Orange County patients with an expectation of the recovery period ahead of time as he feels it helps them cope with the process better in the long run. By knowing what to expect, patients will be better prepared to do what they need to do in order to take care of their bodies during this crucial time. The recovery period is essential for a patient’s overall health as well as the success of the surgery.
Dr. Sadati has found that most of his patients at his Newport Beach practice spend between 7 and 10 days recovering from a rhinoplasty surgery. Patients should be aware of the fact that there will be some bruising and swelling on their face immediately after the surgery is complete. Some patients will experience more swelling and bruising than others, depending on what techniques were used during their surgery. For instance, patients who have to undergo an osteotomy will have more bruising and swelling than those who do not. An osteotomy is the process by which a surgeon has to break the nose in order to fix structural issues. Most swelling will subside within a couple of weeks and at that time patients will be able to reveal their new nose to their family and friends.
As one of the top rhinoplasty physicians, Dr. Sadati helps his patients by providing several tips on preventing bruising and swelling as much as possible.
- Take herbal supplements that are known for helping to reduce swelling and bruising. Some of these supplements include papaya extract and Bromelain.
- Do not take any blood thinning products during the two weeks leading up to the surgery. Products that have been shown to thin out a patient’s blood include naproxen sodium, ibuprofen, garlic pills, ginseng, glucosamine, vitamin E and aspirin.
- Apply cold compresses to the face for the 48 hours immediately following the surgery. Ice packs and cold compresses not only help to reduce swelling and minimize bruising, but they also help patients manage their pain level at the same time.
Each patient will receive specific, customized post-operative instructions from Dr. Sadati. It is essential that all patients follows these instructions as they are designed to help make the patient feel better as quickly as possible as well as give the patient the best results in the end.
